Emma Alsford and Paul Donnithorne have been trad climbing in Britain and all over the world for over 30 years, and they first visited the world class traditional rock climbing area around the beautiful Jebel el Kest region in the Moroccan Anti Atlas in 2007. They have also been active members of the Climbers Club (www.climbers-club.co.uk) of Britain for over 20 years and been involved with the production of the definitive Pembroke series of rock climbing guidebooks, an area they feel extremely passionate about.

Paul and Emma have been new routing since they began climbing and have established over 1,000 new climbs all over Britain and overseas, over 100 of which are in the Moroccan Anti Atlas. They were introduced to the rock climbing in the Anti Atlas region and specifically the Jebel el Kest and Taskra ranges by their good friends Ben and Marion Wintringham. Ben began documenting and recording the new climbs in the region when the 'explosion' of activity began on the north side of Jebel el Kest and Jebel Taskra in 2007 in the northern part of the region.

Ben had also been heavily involved with development on the south side of Jebel el Kest, when he joined the original pioneers in 2000 - Les Brown discovered the region as early as 1991, along with Trevor Jones, and they were soon joined by the likes of Joe Brown, Claude Davies and Pete Turnbull. A few years later Paul Ross and Derek Walker joined in the exciting forays into the unknown, while Chris Bonington discovered 'what all the fuss was about' in 2001. Claude Davies produced the original guidebook Climbing in the Moroccan Anti Atlas in 2004, published by Cicerone.
